Jewish Reaction to Hatred: Right and Wrong

[jewish-reaction-to-hatred.jpg]
The greatest mistake, made by Jews thoughout all ages: the assumption that the friendship of those who hate us can be won by “dispelling the stereotypes”. Click image to view full size.

Those who love us will love us even more when we act like Jews. Those who hate us will keep hating us no matter how much of our Jewishness (whether the garb or tenets of the mind like Jewish exceptionalism) we shed in order to win their favor.

“HaShem will give strength unto His people; HaShem will bless His people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11)

Don't you believe it, Angel, but several years ago, when I was deep in being a leftified, hippified, "Judaism-is-whatever-you-think-it-is" Jew, it was a Christian woman who reacted in shock when I asked her to pass a piece of ham:

- What do you mean, "Ham"?! You're Jewish, aren't you?

- Yes, but I'm not religious.

- But Jews don't eat pork.

- Only the religious don't. I'm not, so I eat it.

- Well, you shouldn't. Jews don't eat pork!

I let it go. I'd never gotten such a reaction from any Jew, not even the few religious Jews I'd known.

There are expectations, mainly because of the fame of the Bible, that Jews do at least partly as things go in that book. Both those who love us, like that Christian woman, and, to distinguish, those who hate us do their part, intentional or not, in keeping us off from strange fields. Amazing.

HaShem bless you, Angel.

ZY, as usual, your pictures and captions capture the essence of an issue.

Interesting story about your meal with the Christian lady. I used to get similar reactions from friends when I ordered pepperoni pizza in college.

Michael,

Talking of capturing the essence, I was really taken yesterday by a link featured on Media Backspin, to the article What if the Earth really is round? by Warren Goldstein on Jerusalem Post, which cuts out all the usual stuff about "checkpoints" and "security fence" and "compensation" and gets to the heart of the matter on the conflict here. Now that's an article I'd like to see a lot more in the media.

HaShem bless you.

Warren Goldstein really captured the essence of the conflict.
Jewish self-hatred never works.
There is one reason reason for this hatred, sinah - Sinai! The sonei yisrael hate us because they hate Hashem and the Torah. Only when we stand proud and teach the world about Hashem and spread the Noahide laws will anti-semitism stop.

While I was at university, my jewish freinds would jokingly come up and offer me a bite of their ham sandwich. However, when I was invited to a party of a non-jewish freind they always made a point of pointing out to me what dishes were vegitarian. My muslim freinds, even the ones from " the occupied territories" respected my opinions on Israel. They understood me when I said I worry about my brothers before I worry about my cousins.
